Remote Learning Provision
At St. Bede’s Catholic Junior School, we are committed to ensuring that high-quality learning continues for all pupils in the event of any disruption to face-to-face education. Our Remote Learning Strategy is fully aligned with the Department for Education’s expectations (2025) and reflects our mission to provide an ambitious, inclusive, and faith-based education — whether learning takes place in school or at home.
- Purpose and Principles
Our remote learning provision ensures that:
Pupils can access a high-quality, well-sequenced curriculum that mirrors in-school learning.
Teaching and learning remain inclusive and accessible for all pupils, including those with SEND and EAL.
Daily engagement and feedback are maintained to support progress and wellbeing.
Learning is adapted to meet pupils’ individual needs while maintaining high expectations for all.
Parents and carers are supported as partners in learning, with clear communication and guidance.
We are committed to ensuring continuity of education that reflects the same ambition, structure, and care as our in-person curriculum.
- DfE Alignment and Statutory Expectations
In line with the DfE’s remote education guidance (2025), our provision ensures that:
Continuity of Education: Pupils who are unable to attend school physically (for reasons such as isolation or temporary closure) continue to receive a planned and well-delivered education.
Minimum Time Expectations:
Key Stage 2 pupils receive 4 hours of remote learning per day.
This includes a balance of direct teaching, independent work, and interactive learning.
Curriculum Quality: Remote learning matches the ambition and breadth of the school curriculum and is planned and delivered by qualified teachers.
Monitoring and Support: Attendance, engagement, and progress are tracked, and additional support is provided where needed.
Safeguarding and Online Safety: Systems are in place to keep pupils safe while learning online, including filtering, supervision, and regular guidance for parents.
- Implementation
Our remote learning offer includes:
Live or recorded lessons using approved platforms (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, or Seesaw).
Structured learning sequences that build on prior knowledge and support progression.
Daily teacher contact, feedback, and opportunities for pupils to ask questions and receive support.
Adapted tasks and differentiated materials for pupils with additional needs.
Blended learning opportunities combining digital resources, paper-based activities, and independent study.
Regular communication with families to ensure access, engagement, and wellbeing.
Teachers provide clear instructions and resources, following the same subject plans and progression as the in-school curriculum.
- Inclusion and Accessibility
We recognise that not all families have equal access to technology or learning spaces. To ensure equity:
Devices are loaned to pupils who need them.
Printed learning packs are provided when online access is not possible.
Support is offered for parents/carers to navigate online platforms.
Additional support is given to vulnerable pupils, including those with SEND, through personalised communication and differentiated materials.
- Monitoring, Feedback and Evaluation
Engagement: Teachers monitor attendance and participation daily, following up promptly where engagement is low.
Feedback: Pupils receive regular feedback through digital platforms or verbal contact, ensuring misconceptions are addressed.
Assessment: Teachers use formative assessment to track progress and inform next steps.
Quality Assurance: Subject leaders and senior staff review the quality of remote education regularly, ensuring alignment with in-school provision.
- Safeguarding and Wellbeing
The safety and wellbeing of our pupils remain our highest priority.
All online sessions follow the school’s Online Safety Policy and Acceptable Use Agreement.
Pupils are reminded regularly about how to stay safe online.
Staff maintain regular wellbeing check-ins and ensure pupils have access to pastoral support if needed.
- Communication with Parents/Carers
Parents and carers receive regular updates via email, newsletters, and the school website. Guidance is provided on:
How to access and support remote learning at home.
Online safety and safeguarding expectations.
Wellbeing resources and support available to families.
We value parents as partners in their child’s learning journey and provide opportunities for feedback to continuously improve our remote education offer.
- Review and Continuous Improvement
Our Remote Learning provision is reviewed annually and after any period of significant use. Feedback from pupils, parents, and staff is used to refine our approach and ensure it remains effective, equitable, and in line with DfE expectations and Ofsted’s Quality of Education criteria.
