Rejoice in Song
‘He who sings prays twice.’
(St. Augustine)
Music and singing are integral to the prayer and liturgy life of St. Bede’s Catholic Junior School. They support worship, deepen understanding of Scripture and enable full, active and conscious participation. Music helps to create a prayerful atmosphere and is a further means by which pupils can express their faith. Weekly, the whole school engages in Rejoice in Song to rehearse music for assemblies, celebrations and liturgies.
A broad repertoire of traditional and contemporary hymns is sung within school and used within celebrations of the Word, liturgies and Mass. Hymns of gathering and praise are sung all year round while others reflect liturgical seasons. Music, hymns and songs are selected carefully to ensure they are theologically appropriate, accessible to pupils, and supportive of the prayer or liturgical focus. Please see the List of Hymns for more information about the music used within school.
Children who engage wholeheartedly in the worshipping life of the school through singing and who confidently lead others in singing are recognised as Faithful Singers.
